Okapi is a quiet, broody, rude, secretive, but otherwise good natured kindred. She’s the youngest of Von Haas’ goons, being embraced about a year ago at the age of 22.
Her number one goal in death is to be indistinguishable from your run of the mill college student, just to feel normal again. Her relationship with vampirism is simple: she hates it. She hates the lifestyle, she hates the “people”, and she ESPECIALLY hates the life of petty crime she's been forced into by lady Von haas. Her ultimate plan is to find a convenient opportunity to step into the sun for one last time.
Okapi tends to be closed off around kindred, it’s hard to get anything out of her that isn’t dismissive at best, snarky at worst. She refuses to engage with most kindred, she’s not “like them” so why bother to be anything but tolerant to their presence. There are a few exceptions, kindred who have proven themselves “not like” the others and who she tends to pretty heavily latch onto, her “pack” if you will. Those Okapi trusts, both human and kindred, know her as a shy, awkward girl, who’s terrified of the situation she finds herself in. She desperately wishes she was the person she was before her embrace, to the point she vehemently rejects shes a vampire in anything but biology.
Amber’s early childhood was defined by the loss of her father, and her mother’s grief. Despite the circumstances, Amber lived a normal childhood, she learned to fend for herself at a young age, being left home as her mother picked up extra shifts to make up the income lost by her father. A lot of Amber’s formative memories center around drawing constantly, getting through the comic books & sci-fi/fantasy movies left behind by her father, but most importantly, spending copious amounts of time on the family computer, where she absorbed herself in the furry community, and all the internet nonsense that came with it.
As Amber entered her teen years, she grew extremely close with her mother, who became a huge advocate for her and her weirdness. It was during her teen years Amber realized how deep her connection with animals ran, she, on average, liked them more than people, and grew a small but dedicated online following drawing them. Although, her online activity wasn’t all what she let on, as her browsing habits evolved, so did her “proclivities”. As the years went on, Amber became enthralled by the concept of the human body shifting and changing far beyond it’s constraints, in layman's terms, she had a transformation fetish. It was a desire she never let see the light of day (at least publicly) but one she desperately yearned for nonetheless
Amber’s first couple years of college were some of the best of her life, her mother convinced her to pursue zoology, she knew how much her daughter loved it, and she was right, she did. Amber attended a local university in Chicago proper, and for the first time, made genuinely like-minded real life friends. Thanks to them, she spent a shocking amount of time partying, and being generally wild for a self proclaimed introvert. This newfound wild streak really awakened something in Amber, it gave her the confidence to explore her previously locked away fantasies with other people, maybe not people she knew, but people nonetheless. By her sophomore year, she was spending increasingly more time in shady furry telegram chats, partaking in these fantasies, even culminating in a couple real life convention hotel room meetups, it was great, but it didn’t satisfy her yearning.
Everything changed when Amber met Farrah. Like a lot of her more risqué relationships, she met Farrah online, but something about their relationship felt different. Their conversations would often drift past their intended purpose, into deeper, more emotional territory; it was in these conversations where Farrah would eventually reveal her innate ability of complete and total physical transformation, something from Amber’s deepest fantasies. Over the course of a few months, Amber grew enthralled with Farrah, who promised her the world, eternal life, strength beyond what she thought possible, and the dealbreaker, the ability to shift and change her body far beyond it’s constraints. In hindsight, Amber should’ve known something was up, the promise of what seemed impossible should’ve been a dead giveaway, but whether it being her naivete, longing for fantasy, her “little” crush on Farrah, or an unholy combination of the three, she looked past the red flags, and organized a proper meetup.
Amber finally met Farrah in a run-down house just outside the suburbs, at this point, she didn’t care about how shady it all felt, she fully let her desire take the lead. Farrah took advantage of this, tying amber up, having her way with her, and ultimately, embracing her. Post-embrace, Amber knew something was wrong, the warmth in Farrah was suddenly gone, before Amber knew what was going on, Farrah left her tied up, locked in a basement to escape or die. That was the last time she ever saw Farrah. The time Amber spent in the basement was a blur, her newfound beast was raging, escape was the only thing she could think of, in the end, it took weeks of mangling herself and her surroundings to finally get out.
